A new launch with seasoned members, demonstrated results

hemiden is a firm with a great track record; its personnel have many years of dedicated, focused BIM consulting in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction fields for all sizes of projects: from 6,000 square foot residences to 600,000 square foot airport terminals. hemiden can handle all BIM needs at all levels, from a single, short term task to taking over the full BIM responsibilities of an entire project, providing staff, maintaining project coordination, attending to clash detection and providing construction documentation for submittals of all kinds.

hemiden was created to fill a need for Architects, Engineers, Contractors and Owners to integrate BIM into their normal workflow, whether by taking on the task in its entirety or by assisting in building the firm's own in-house BIM staff. With its focus on BIM, hemiden's efficiency is maximized, which directly affects the end cost. By contracting with hemiden you will be avoiding the worst of the headaches of handling your project's BIM requirements yourself, whether hemiden fills the role of your BIM partner, doing all the required BIM tasks for your project, or hemiden assists you in building your own BIM staff. All this is accomplished while saving overall costs in the end; hemiden brings years of experience to the table and BIM has been shown in numerous studies to reduce the cost of targeted projects by a substantial margin.

OSHPD coordination

In California, the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development, OSHPD, is the agency that oversees the building and permitting of all medical facilities in the state. While ensuring that California's hospitals are the best in the world, the need for OSHPD compliance has made the job of the AEC much more complex, even while the application of the principles of BIM is allowing Architecture, Engineering and Construction partners to conform to the new regulations with greater efficiency than ever before possible. hemiden has been successfully working on OSHPD-regulated facilities since 2006 and can help your firm meet these stringent requirements.

So, why choose hemiden?

It's simple: we'll save you time, headaches and money. hemiden focuses on BIM so you don't have to.

Melvin Hoagland, founder

melvin hoaglandMelvin has had a long and very successful career as a design consultant in many fields: from museum exhibits to trade shows, surgical instruments to packaging, advertising to architecture. For the first 15 years of his working life he was a leader in manufacturing and general product design and since 1995 he has been working almost exclusively in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction fields. He's an instructor of advanced 3D CAD, 3D modeling, rendering, visualization and BIM.

Melvin began as an artist, studying painting, sculpture, printmaking and graphic design. On leaving school, he started his original firm, Hemisphere Design, and worked in the northeast for over 20 years, relocating to the Bay Area in 2006. In 1989, with the introduction of true 3D modeling in AutoCAD Release 10, he began working with 3D computer models and took to it so quickly that he was consulting to experts in the field before the first year ended. In 1994 he was invited to Autodesk's Novi, Michigan Designer Center (now the Manufacturing Solutions Division) to be trained to teach parametric modeling for Autodesk's premier software packages: Designer, Mechanical Desktop and Inventor. Since that time he has offered the highest quality of professional training to his clients and has been teaching the principles of Building Information Modeling and Autodesk's AEC parametric modelers, Revit Architecture, BIM 360 and Navisworks. He has held a teaching position at The Academy of Art University Graduate School of Architecture.

His recent work includes the University of California, Berkeley, Lower Sproul Redevelopment Project; Apple, Inc, AC2 Corporate Fitness Center; Palo Alto VA Medical Center Radiology Consolidation and Campus-Wide Underground Utilities; San Francisco International Airport, Terminal 2 Reconstruction and Replacement Project; consulting as the BIM lead for the new Highland Hospital in Oakland, California, a competition which his team won; and the Mills Peninsula Hospital Replacement Project in Burlingame, California.

He loves what he does for a living. Discovering the ease with which a computer could be made to represent his thoughts, ideas and design, opened up a whole new world and he's never looked back. He's been told that his enthusiasm is infectious and it shows in his work - whether teaching, involved in complex engineering problems or stretching the limits of 3D applications, his approach to the world of parametrics, computer-aided design and the new world of building information modeling results in a fresh and successful response every time.

Melvin co-authored a book, Mechanical Desktop 2.0, which he also uses in his parametric modeling classes.
